KEEPING OUR PROMISE TO AMERICA'S VETERANS

Announcements from Department

New program will enable claims services to remote populations

Two Arizona sites will be the first beneficiaries of the Department's initiative to reach more of our remote Veterans, including those on our Native American Reservations.

The first site will be Globe, AZ, starting February 9, 2026:

The second site is Chinle, AZ, located on the Navajo Reservation about 6 hours of Phoenix. The All-Navajo Veterans Auxiliary is our host, in the newly-established Veterans Resource Center in Chinle.

The first remote claims service to Chinle is planned for March 18, 2026.

In both cases, the long-term goal is to establish new chapters with organic CSOs.

AZ DAV Teams with VFW, The Legion, & UAV to fight for Claim Shark bill revision

SB1803, a bi-partisan bill sponsored by Sen. Gowan and Sen, Sears seeks to limit the ability of "Claim Sharks" to prey on Disabled Veterans. A delegation of the state leadership from DAV, VFA, UAV, and The Legion jointly discussed the need for revision to require VA accreditation for working with Veterans on claims or appeals to the VA. The current form of the bill allows non-accredited individuals and  organizations to continue to operate under loose, essentially unmonitored conditions. Requiring  VA accreditation protects Veterans by requiring education, examination, continuing education, reaccreditation exams, and following a fee schedule approved by the VA. Without the accreditation requirement, we are opposed to the bill.

An amazing day on the Navajo Reservation!
The Pinon Veteran Organization Hogan our first installation with the Starlink system Internet capability with our remote claims station. It was a combined effort by DAV Department of Arizona, the President of the All-Navajo Veterans Auxiliary, and Commander of the Pinon Chapter of the Navajo Veterans Organization.
Rod Hage and I met Vietnam combat Veteran Jackie Burbank. Jackie was President of the Dine Warriors Planning Group, who were instrumental in bringing the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Moving Wall to Chinle in 2016—the first time that the moving wall was displayed on a Native American Reservation! He presented us with a framed copy of the 2016 news story of when "The Traveling Wall" came to Chinle.
We worked and collaborated all day with Saraphine "Sara" Josley, President of the All-Navajo Veterans Auxiliary and Barton Hosteen, Vice-Chair of the Pinon Veteran Wellness Group and President of the Pinon Chapter of Navajo Veterans. April 24th, I will be addressing the combined 16 Chapters Veterans leaders of the Navajo Nation in Pinon.

Officer Election Reports - Installation and Revisions

Effective August 1, 2025, you will be expected to use the electronic, web-based form to submit installation and revision OERs. This form is more complete than the paper form, as it provides information on your DEC and Alt DEC which are not on the paper form. Remember, OERs must be submitted within 10 calendar days from a change in Chapter leadership.

Officers should verify their contact information before the Chapter submits the OER. If the information is incorrect, the officer will need to go to mydav.org and access their personal profile to update the incorrect data. This is essential for Department to be able to contact you for DEC issues and other official business.

Thanks for your cooperation!

Department of AZ installs first of 9 remote claim stations in Globe, AZ

Department of Arizona, in partnership with Globe Elks Lodge 489 (our hosts), installed the first remote claim station on Thursday, February 5th. The location will be managed by DAV East Valley Chapter 8 member Linda Merlin, and is fully supported by Elks Exalted Ruler Mariano Gonzalez and Globe Mayor Al Gameros. Elks Lodge 489 is graciously providing DAV with the space for the station and Internet connectivity at no cost.

This program will allow Veterans who are underserved because of distance from DAV Chapters to conduct videoconference sessions with Chapter Service Officers, scheduled from Chapters around the state, to manage the claims process.

A total of 9 remote stations are planned, at a cost of $30K, including stations serving Arizona's historically underserved Native American Veterans. Three of the upcoming Native American community installations will also include a Starlink setup to provide the Internet connectivity required to conduct the videoconferences.

As National Commander Coleman Nee says--it is important for us to meet Veterans where they are, not exect them to come through our door...
