Disabled Veterans and Military Retirees to see COLA increase in 2025

With President Biden's signing of H.R. 7777, the Veterans' Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) Act of 2024, into law on November 25th, military retirees and disabled Veterans receiving VA benefits will see a 2.5. percent COLA increase beginning on 1 December 2024. The increase will also impact survivors receiving dependency indemnity compensation payments.

According to Military.com, the increase means Veterans rated at 100 percent without dependents may receive an additional $93.45 per month, while a Veteran rated at 10 percent may see an additional $4.28 per month. Please visit: Current Veterans Disability Compensation Rates | Veterans Affairs to learn more about your compensation benefits.

All Military Retirees Must Have New Style ID Card by end of 2025

ATTENTION RETIRED MILITARY MEMBERS: Beginning in 2026, the old-style, blue ID cards will no longer be accepted, regardless of the printed expiration date. In order to maintain base access, please visit your nearest DEERS/ID card office to obtain a new ID. If you're unable to make it to a military installation, you can also request a new card through the RAPIDS ID Card Office Online:

How to apply for a Veteran ID Card
A Veteran ID Card (VIC) is a digital form of photo ID you can use to get discounts offered to Veterans at many restaurants, hotels, stores, and other businesses. You may be eligible if you meet both of these requirements. You served on active duty, in the Reserves, or in the National Guard (including the Coast Guard), and you received an honorable or general discharge (under honorable conditions). If you received an other than honorable, bad conduct, or dishonorable character of discharge, you’re not eligible for a Veteran ID Card. If you have an uncharacterized or unknown discharge status, The VA will have to verify your eligibility before they approve your application. You’ll need to provide a copy of your discharge papers when you apply for a VIC to prove your character of discharge. You can apply online: https://www.va.gov/records/get-veteran-id-cards/vic/

Join Maine's Driving Force - The DAV Transportation Network!
The DAV Transportation Network is looking for drivers to fill their Sanford, Down East, Rumford and Aroostoock County routes, providing rides to the Togus VA Medical Facility for local Veterans. You don't need to be a Veteran. You just need to have the desire to help Maine Veterans, while traveling through our beautiful state. DAV has recently replaced two 2011 E-350 vans with two Ford Explorers. With this upgrade to our fleet, "Maine's Driving Force" of volunteer drivers continues to provide safe, reliable (and stylish!) rides to the men and women who served.
